I'm Dan. I build opinionated apps for everyday moments, at home and at work, like picking what to play next, making sense of a cocktail menu, or keeping a Slack thread from getting lost.
Barefoot Apps is my independent product studio. It's where I take ideas from a first sketch to something people actually use, and keep improving them from there. Not every idea ships, but every one of them shapes what I build next.

- Ricorda (iPhone): music discovery for Apple Music, now using on-device Apple models for personalized picks
- Lettore (Vision Pro): a compact version of Ricorda built for visionOS
- Cocktail Menus (iPhone): snap a photo of a drink menu and keep track of what you liked, even offline
- Analog DJ (iPhone, coming soon): a home for your vinyl collection, with album cover recognition
Earlier
- Magnum Platform: a local-first team of AI agents I built to help me build products
- DocThisConvo: a Slack app that kept Notion docs up to date with decisions and action items
- Surf Forecast (Apple TV): live swell, wind, and tide conditions for surf spots around the world
- Board Time (Apple Watch): tracked surf sessions, including waves caught, distance per wave, and top speed
Building and leading teams
I started out building applications and have moved back and forth between player-coach roles, writing code alongside my teams, and leading engineering teams full time.
Along the way, I've hired the team behind a major brand's first mobile app, led the team behind a tablet app that moved car rentals out from behind the counter at locations across North America and Europe, guided multiple teams through a major release during the switch to remote work, and led the teams that built native iOS, Android, and cross-platform SDKs. I've never wanted to drift too far from building, which is a big part of why Barefoot Apps exists.
